After ProMOS and Hynix confirmed their strategic partnership, South Korea Ministry of Knowledge Economy later on approved Hynix to transfer its 54nm DRAM process to ProMOS. According to ProMOS chairman Chen Min-liang, the company expects to import Hynix 54nm process technology in due form at around Dec. 2008 or Jan. 2009.
As to the DRAM market trend, Chen Min-liang commented that the market situation for 3Q is optimistic. As output of leading DRAM manufacturers is limited while demand in the market is climbing thanks to traditional hot season effect, DRAM prices are expected to rise steadily. He also predicted that ProMOS will reach a double digit growth extent for the sales revenue in June. Sales revenue for ProMOS in May has increased by 24% compared to April.
Chen also said that the company’s self developed 1Gb 70nm process shrink edition DRAM is predicted to start volume production In Q3. This new shrink edition chip will firstly enter spot market to test its market reaction and then to be sold to the contract market. Generally, no new products will be launched for ProMOS in Q3; the company will focus on the development of more advanced process technology and the improvement of the yield rate, increasing its output.
