DRAMeXchange: Annual Review of SSDs
In this year's annual review of SSDs by DRAMeXchange, a research division of Trendforce, we tested out 32 different 2.5-inch SSDs, including standard SSDs in the affordable price range and high-speed SDDs, which are generally adopted by medium and small size companies and work stations. We reviewed several categories of SSDs (SATA2 with 60GB and 100GB storage and SATA3 with over 100GB storage).

AS SSD Benchmark 1.6.4013.39530

The new program for measuring SSD performance is AS SSD Benchmark. This test clearly demonstrates the performance of SSDs under various application environments. We observed the benchmark during many runs, monitored and analyzed the results, and found its performance to be rather outstanding.
Of these sets, only 2 SSDs come with SLC NAND Flash: MX MXSSD2SDS-60G(SLC) and SOLIDATA K5(SLC), and both scored high in the AS SSD read benchmark. MX MXSSD2SDS-60G(SLC)'s Sandforce control chip is more powerful than SOLIDATA K5(SLC)'s Indilinx barefoot chip, but as the former comes at a much higher price, it would be better for server or workstation use.
Which one of these sets came out with the best read performance?
The answer is Intel SSDSA2CW080G3. It had the best read benchmark in this test, but KingFast KF2501MCF and Richmax/ SUPERSSPEED Seraphim MLC 60GB are the champions of overall benchmark scores.
CrystalDiskMark 3.0.1

The PATRIOT INFERNO PI60GS25SSD_60GB, MX MXSSD2SDS-60G_60GB(SLC), and Apacer Turbo AS602_60GB come close to the SATA2 transfer rate limitation, at around 280MB/s.
The gap in sequential write performance is attributed to the difference between MLC and SLC SSD models, computing power of SSD controllers, and quality and speed of NAND Flash chips. Intel SSDSA2CW080G3_80GB had good read results, but ran badly in the sequential write test. It uses the SandForce SF-1200 chip, which does not have as fast of a write performance as the SF-1222 chip.
The differences between the top five 60GB~80GB SSD sets in this benchmark, which all use the SandForce SF-1222 chip, are NAND Flash chip source and product price.
HDTune Pro v4.60

The average benchmark of HD Tune Pro read and write shows the average computing power of each SSD in daily heavy-access tasks. It combines high and low read/write performance.
Here comes the winner: KingFast KF2501MCF_60GB(MLC) and SOLIDATA K5_64GB(SLC).
IOMeter V1.1.0rc

This test clearly indicates each SSD's controller IC computing power, speed, and NAND Flash quality.
The leading SSDs use the SandForce series chip, and the Richmax/ SUPERSSPEED Seraphim MLC 60GB is the winner in the IOMeter group.

The 64GB category is the acceptable price range for general consumers. Of the 12 SSDs reviewed in this evaluation, we selected those which excel in overall performance, specifications, and quality. The recommended products are as follows:
The Best SSD of SATA2 60GB MLC
In terms of overall performance, the winner is the KingFast KF2501MCF.
The runners-up are as follows, in descending order:
Richmax/ SUPERSSPEED Seraphim MLC 60GB
Apacer Turbo AS602
PATRIOT INFERNO PI60GS25SSD
Intel SSDSA2CW080G3 (320 Series 80GB)
Strontium SRSSDGM-25
The Best SSD of SATA2 60GB SLC
The winner is the MX MXSSD2SDS-60G(SLC).
The Best Price/performance ratio SSD of SATA2 60GB
The winner is the Richmax/ SUPERSSPEED Seraphim MLC 60GB.
