【Performance Test】SuperSSpeed 120GB/240GB SATA3 SSD with high performance and affordable price

This article is part of a series of tests performed by DRAMeXchange, a research division of TrendForce

SuperSSpeed, a branch of the Hong Kong based tech company, RICHMAX, is known for developing high-end data storage devices and other related hardware. The products to be tested and reviewed this time around are the 120GB and 240GB versions of SuperSSpeed’s SATA 3 SSDs. While both the 120GB and 240GB SSDs utilize the SF-2281 master chip, the two versions differ significantly in terms of the NAND flash chips used. The 120 GB version adopts Intel’s 25nm SLC flash chip, whereas the 240GB version opts for Intel’s 25nm MLC flash chip. It is expected that the employment of the two different chips will lead to different performances outcomes.

AS SSD Benchmark

In terms of hardware performance, the 120GB SSD earns a score of 905 points, whereas the 240GB version receives 729 points. The 120GB SSD’s high score, in a sense, is a testament to SLC flash chip’s superiority over the MLC flash chips as well as the SSD’s practicality over its large capacity counterpart.

Despite the lower hardware performance score, the 240GB SSD’s processing performance ranks somewhere above average.

On the whole, the overall systematic processing capabilities of SuperSSpeed’s SSDs are better than the majority of the SATA 3 SSD products out there. 

With respectable performance levels and affordability, the SSDs are expected to be popular amongst high-end tech users

While SuperSSpeed’s advertised performance and pricing are both a catch, the 120GB SSD, with its more superior SLC flash chip, will probably earn higher amounts of attention. Given the importance of securing as well as backing up data, one could consider getting a hold of two SLC chips, and implement either a RAID 0 or a RAID 1 storage scheme for each one. Doing so may increase storage effectiveness and efficiency, and in result increase the practicality associated with the SSD device.

Even though the 240GB SSD showed relatively positive results during the testing phase, the product is far from the top of the league when it comes to overall performance. The price, however, is fairly reasonable for a 240GB SATA 3 SSD, and should make the product reasonably attractive to certain users out there.
